Skateboarding first took off in the 60s and 70s, and with it came the skater style. It wasn’t until the late 90s that skating transformed into a global art. The culture and fashion also grew. The skater style was mostly about comfortable and loose clothing that was appropriate for the sports and provided some protection. Once again, the trend has made a comeback with big designer names and brands adopting the skater style into their fashion.

To really nail the skate style, the right footwear is essential. Sticking to the classics allows for little room for error even though there are a variety of new brands offering skate shoes. Brands such as Vans and Converse offer authentic skate style shoes, which are typically made up of low- top shoes. Black is always a go- to colour but can be mixed with hints of reds or whites.

Skate shorts always create a “cool” outfit and are a favourite for skaters. Cargo shorts give off a more casual look and are loose fitted. Pair the shorts with a plain t shirts and skate shoes and you’ll have yourself a look. Chinos are a good alternative for something smarter and warmer for the winter months.
